A Message from GuardGuajome.org:
The appeal for the Guajome Lake Homes project is set for Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 6:00 PM at Oceanside City Hall, and we need members of our community there. This is not a call to stop development, but to demand a better, smarter plan that respects our neighborhood’s safety, character, and environment.
The high-density housing project was approved by the Planning Commission in October after a surprising reversal of their August denial. The project’s approval ignores critical, unresolved issues that directly threaten the quality of life and safety of our residents.
Here are the critical issues of the current plan:
Safety: Traffic on Guajome Lake Road is projected to more than double on a narrow partial-dirt road with multiple blind turns and only one evacuation route in the event of a wildfire. This will also worsen traffic conditions along the 76.
Erosion of Our Community’s Equestrian Character: The project would waive the Equestrian Overlay zoning standards that define this horse-friendly area. Several equestrians spoke about the threat to riding safely in the area.
Environmental Harm: The project would block an important wildlife corridor and would destroy the nesting habitat of a federally-threatened bird. Multiple wildlife professionals have spoken out about the irreversible impacts.
