Frequently Asked Questions
All you need to know about the Jeffries Ranch Community Foundation
Is this an Homeowner’s Association (HOA)?
No, Jeffries Ranch Community Foundation is nonprofit organization with a community-based mission. Participation is voluntary.
Why do we need a nonprofit organization?
Unlike a homeowner’s association, the benefits of a nonprofit include
Community partnership: The nonprofit will address the needs of the community but will not impose rules or regulations on homeowners or the community. It will seek to build trust by making the community the most valuable stakeholder and beneficiary of its mission.
Transparency and accountability: Donors will know how their money is being spent as well as how efficiently it is being spent. The legal structure of a 501c3 ensures this. We also aim to publish costs along with 990 tax filings.
Tax-deductible donations: Donations can be used as tax write-offs. This benefits individual donors and partners who wish to contribute.
Voluntary donations and participation: Funds raised will be used for needed public works and projects that provide a common community benefit. There is no mandate or obligation to give.
How is this different from current community efforts?
People in the Jeffries Ranch community volunteer and help each other all the time. This nonprofit does not replace anyone’s hard work. It only formalizes what is already being done. It also provides the following benefits:
Longevity: The nonprofit will outlast its individual members. Community programs– including events like the Boat Parade – stay in the community even when individuals move away or pass on.
Partnership opportunities: A nonprofit allows us to partner with other entities and people in a collective way. We can seek out grants, sponsorships, and in-kind donations. We can also offer community service credits to local students and corporate employees.
Decreased cost burden: Revitalization projects will be negotiated in bulk. This will offer greater discounts on materials and services.
What does preserving Jeffries Ranch entail?
We will work on raising funds, organizing volunteers, and funding cleanup, maintenance, and restoration projects for fencing, trails, and public-use spaces.
